What Type of Rope Do I Need?
There are a variety of rope types that are used in rope bondage, each with its own unique advantages and disadvantages.
Natural Fiber Ropes
Natural Fiber Ropes
Natural fiber ropes are less likely to result in rope burn against the skin and they are less strong compared to synthetic rope options. These include jute, hemp, & cotton ropes, all of which have some indivual characteristics. Jute ropes are very light weight. Hemp ropes are a little stronger than jute but are also very dense and heavy. Both jute and hemp get softer with use which adds to their appeal. However, both are weakened by water and therefore not washable. Cotton on the other hand, is washable! Cotton is also extremely stretchy which makes knots and frictions compact too much under load making them difficult to untie.

Synthetic ropes are incredibly strong and washable. However, they can more easily result in rope burn.

Our instructors have some experience with all of the aforementioned rope types and usually have examples of each with them at events. Currently, they predominately tie with jute ropes and occasionally with P.O.S.H.

It is important to be prepared for the event in which things do not go according to the plan during a rope scene.
Sometimes you might need to get someone out in a hurry, faster than you can untie them. Therefore we recommend having a way to cut rope if needed.
Safety shears are a great option. They have blunted tips which will prevent you from accidentally stabbing someone or yourself while allowing you to cut rope.
Saftey hooks/seatbelt cutters are another popular option. They are compact, sharp, and have an opening perfectly sized for rope. The blade is protected so you are unable to accidentally stab someone or yourself. However, we recommend caution when using these to make sure you don't get your fingers caught in the opening against the blade.
We do not recommend using a knife as a saftey tool. They are too unwieldy and dangerous for this application.

Additionally, depending on what your goals are with rope, there may be other types of hardware that will be useful to you. We discuss these as they are relevant in our classes.
Partner?
Partner?
A partner is not required to learn rope! Rope bondage includes both partnered-tying and self-tying.
The majority of rope can be practiced on oneself & the majority of our classes are self-tie friendly!
Some ties do require a partner. We will be clear in the class description if having a partner is easier/needed for that particular class topic. That being said, unpartnered individuals are still welcome to attend, take notes, adapt the tie to be tied on oneself, or ask another unpartnered individual to pair up for the class. Please be respectful when approaching others to tie, clearly negotiate your boundaries with one another, and accept any rejections without question or aggression.

Part of our mission is to create an environment in which everyone feels that learning rope bondage is possible for them. In order to facilitate this, we hold our community, our students, & ourselves to a specific set standards. The details of these expectations can be found here.

Our group, classes, & events are all for individuals who are at least 19 years of age.
Rope is an incredibly versatile tool, used in a variety of contexts that include artistic, connective, or kink practices. We frequently compare rope to pole dance. Both have their origins in highly adult/sexual contexts. However, both have also expanded into practices and expressions that focus more on artistic and/or athletic goals.
Rope is not an inherently sexual activity but our classes are not restricted from discussion around these topics. Therefore, we will not accept any underage students or group members.
Privacy & Discretion
Privacy & Discretion
Some individuals will not be in a position to be publicly "out" about their interest or participation in rope. Due to the association of rope in more adult contexts, it is still considered taboo in many parts of our society. It is an expectation that everyone respects the privacy and any identifying information about fellow students and group members.

In addition to teaching classes, we also host a discord server. We use it to share notes from the classes you’ve attended, rope bondage resources, rope photos & inspiration, to answer your questions, and to chat about rope!
The discord is open to anyone local (must be 18 years old or older) who is interested in rope, regardless of whether you’ve attended a class yet!
